Growing with our customers

We have come a long way since our start in a small farm shop in 2010. FireFly was founded by a TEAM of turf production, automation, and engineering experts. By listening to our customers and applying the best of technology, we developed a successful product that fills a need in the turf production industry. FireFly now steadily churns out automated turf harvesters from a bustling factory in North Salt Lake. This growth in manufacturing means a shorter wait for turf producers from order to delivery. And these machines are in demand.

Developing an industry-leading harvester

FireFly’s ProSlab 155 harvester has made automation profitable for turf farms selling grass in flat slabs. Especially in warm climates, hand-stacking has long been the way to load these slabs on pallets because of difficult conditions and tender grass varieties. We set out to overcome these challenges with a harvester that is:

  • highly productive
  • efficient
  • reliable
  • durable

The result: the ProSlab 155.

FireFly has quickly become the dominant provider of automation in the turf slab market due to:

  • proven performance
  • technological innovations
  • unmatched service

Catching the world’s attention

FireFly has also caught the attention of many in the tech world. Many said our TEAM stole the show when we presented at NIWeek in Austin last year. Sharing the keynote stage with companies the likes of Samsung and GoPro, all eyes were on FireFly (read more).

Trade magazines and web publications have also featured us in numerous stories over the past year, including a cover story in OEM Off-Highway. More articles have been published in Farm Journal, Automation World, Control Design, and Design World (see more links).

Our company’s growth is the result of an entire TEAM’s hard work and commitment to excellence, as well as the support of customers who recognize the quality of FireFly’s harvesters and parts. We are honored to be in the 2016 Utah 100.

GPS guidance for turf harvesting

FireFly EquipmentPress Release

Turf producers know it’s important to get off to a good start. When opening up a new sod field, it’s crucial to cut a straight first row. Until now, that initial cut had to be done manually, even with harvesters equipped with automatic steering. The operator’s skill and attention would be required to get that first line right, and only then could the automated harvesters switch to auto-steering.

ProSlab with GPS guidance

FireFly introduces GPS Auto-Steer

Now the pressure’s off. FireFly Equipment’s ProSlab 155 turf harvester now offers GPS guidance by Trimble Autopilot. The factory integrated guidance system gives turf producers the ability to open fields and harvest anywhere in the field with perfectly straight lines—even in rolling terrain, slopes, and rough ground.

Ag Technologies with ProSlab 155
Straight lines aren’t just good looking. Accurate rows improve profitability. You can harvest more turf out of the field, increasing your yield. The ProSlab’s guidance system automatically steers the harvester on line with maximum precision. When it gets off the path, Autopilot signals it to adjust its position to follow the correct line, regardless of the field pattern or terrain type.

In addition to improving yield, precision harvesting also aids in regrow from ribbon fields and reduces operator fatigue. Despite low light or poor visibility, the ProSlab’s GPS keeps working.

Trimble Autopilot
FireFly Equipment is known for integrating the best technologies to provide solutions to the turf industry. GPS guidance for turf harvesting is just another way FireFly stands for “Automation made simple.” And that gets their customers off to a great start every time.
